Air inlets allow fresh clean air to enter the building. When fans are switched on to extract stale air, fresh air is drawn in through the air inlets.

The inlets are usually automatically controlled by a pull-rod system linked to an inlet winch. This controls the amount of air allowed into the building and and what speed or pressure it should open.

The shape of the inlet is also important to get the desired air flow to the centre of the building. TPI Polytechnic inlets do this perfectly.
